27 exoplanet targets picked for the first private space telescope
Researchers Logan Pearce and Ewan Douglas proposed a list of 27 giant exoplanets for the ExtraSolar Coronagraph on Lazuli, the first private space telescope, which has a 3-meter mirror and is slated to launch by 2029. Reflected-light observations will let astronomers study atmospheres of mature planets regardless of age.
- Lazuli's 3-meter mirror is larger than Hubble's 2.4-meter mirror
- The telescope is scheduled to launch by 2029
- The list includes 27 giant exoplanets such as 55 Cancri d and β Pic b
- Required exposures range from 10 to hundreds of hours
