Space Force wants a new spaceport by 2030
The US Space Force says it needs a third heavy-lift spaceport operational by 2030 to relieve pressure on Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg. No site or land-acquisition plan has been chosen; the two existing bases handled 175 launches last year, with demand projected to reach 700 a year by 2036.

- Space Force projects up to 700 launches a year by 2036
- A third site would add "geographic resiliency" against disasters or attacks
- Options include federal land, state sites, commercial bases and SpaceX's Louisiana spaceport
