Valve releases Steam Frame CAD files documenting an accessory port
Valve published STEP models of the Steam Frame headset, head strap and controllers on its GitLab, along with a spec for the auxiliary port at the nose bridge. The port carries two MIPI D-PHY camera lanes or a single PCIe Gen4 lane, and power is only supplied after an accessory identifies itself via I2C or an EEPROM. The files are licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, barring commercial use.
- Nose-bridge port: two MIPI D-PHY lanes at up to 2.5 Gbps each or one PCIe Gen4 lane
- Power rail is 3.1V at 2A continuous, ~3A limit; 6W is over 25% of the headset battery
- Port stays unpowered until an accessory grounds pin 44 and passes one of three probes
- CAD files are under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, so commercial use is not allowed
