Expert: AI worms could threaten cars, drones and robots
Upstream VP Giuseppe Serio told Tom's Guide that AI worms could adapt to different devices with less human involvement, making attacks more scalable. Compromise of autonomous vehicles and robots could affect perception, navigation and potentially physical safety, though no real-world AI worm in Physical AI fleets has been demonstrated.
- AI reduces the manual work needed to adapt malware to different devices
- Spreading requires an entry point, code execution rights and a path to other devices
- Compromise could slow obstacle detection and navigation
- Steering and braking are typically handled by separate protected systems
