Ramp built its own AI agent harness Laminar in six weeks
Fintech company Ramp developed Laminar, an in-house agent harness that took six weeks to reach a first version and now powers all of its agentic products. LangChain CEO Harrison Chase praised its design choices, pointing to a broader shift in agent infrastructure.
- Laminar powers every agentic product at Ramp, including Ramp Inspect and Glass
- Agent sessions are stored separately from sandboxes so restarts don't disrupt them
- Agents are asynchronous by default, with credentials kept outside the sandbox
- LangChain's model routing cut median LLM cost per thread from $2.61 to $0.94
