Voynich Manuscript pages were likely bound out of order, study says
A paper in Digital Medievalist argues the Voynich Manuscript was misbound: its pages were meant as stacked bifolia, not a sewn quire. Lisa Fagin Davis and Colin Layfield say this helps explain why the roughly 240-page codex remains unreadable and means research based on the current page order must be revisited.
- The Voynich Manuscript has about 240 pages of undeciphered text
- A 2020 study found evidence of at least five different scribes
- Latent Semantic Analysis showed links between inner bifolia pages
- Any analysis relying on the current page order needs revisiting
