FADU moves the filesystem inside the SSD to bypass host CPUs
FADU unveiled its File-Semantic SSD at OCP Global Summit 2026, merging the filesystem and flash translation layer inside the drive so GPUs, DPUs and NICs access files directly via NFS-over-NVMe. In a test on its FC6161 Gen6 controller, throughput held at about 460,000 ops/s as the server dropped from 16 cores to one. Partner samples are expected in Q3 2027.
- Filesystem and FTL merged in the SSD, accessed via NFSv3 inside NVMe
- ~460K ops/s on one core vs 40K for Linux NFS-over-RDMA
- Write amplification 63% lower than host F2FS
- Partner samples in Q3 2027, Gen6-host results in Q1 2027
