UN and Google launch UN System Data Commons for AI agents

The UN and Google have launched the UN System Data Commons platform based on the open Data Commons project. It allows natural language search of UN agency statistics and supports the MCP protocol for direct AI access. By 2027, 80% of UN statistical data is planned to be migrated.

• 26 UN entities joined the platform; data from nearly 20 available at launch

• Accuracy of six LLMs on development indicators averaged 21.2%
• Referrals from ChatGPT to UNICEF data site grew 67% year-over-year
