Analysis of 12,534 MCP servers and agent skills finds an ecosystem with no middle class

An MCPMarkets analysis of 12,534 deduplicated GitHub entries (5,945 MCP servers and 6,589 agent skills) as of October 17, 2026 found extreme concentration: the top 1% of servers hold 47.5% of stars, and 62.8% of servers have fewer than 100 stars. Skill repos are hotter, with a median of 160 stars versus 64 for servers.
