China puts Fengqing AI ensemble weather forecast system into operation

The China Meteorological Administration has put its Fengqing AI global ensemble forecasting system (CMA-AIM-GFS-Fengqing-ENS-V1.0) into national operational use. Trained on a roughly 100,000-accelerator cluster in Tianjin, it reaches an 11.0-day effective forecast range for 500 hPa geopotential height.

• Training ran on about 100,000 accelerator cards in Tianjin
• Developed by the National Meteorological Centre with Sugon and Xiong'an institute
• Data, algorithms and computing were all sourced domestically
