Hinton tells the Guardian humans are creating 'alien beings'
Geoffrey Hinton told The Guardian that humans are creating "alien beings" and have only a couple of years to adapt. He pushed back on Nvidia chief Jensen Huang's claim that his predictions were wrong, and signed an open letter with Yoshua Bengio calling for an international body to set containment standards for cyber-capable AI models.
- Hinton puts the risk of AI wiping out humanity at 10–20%
- Huang called Hinton's predictions 'not grounded on science'
- About 489 scientists from 34 countries signed the letter
- Signatories want cyber-capable models cut off from the internet by default
