OpenAI retires four GPT-4 models from API on January 14, 2027

OpenAI is shutting down GPT-4o, GPT-4o mini, GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 mini in its API on January 14, 2027, along with their dated snapshots and fine-tuned versions. Developers get three months to migrate instead of the promised six, and the recommended replacement, GPT-6 Luna, handles reasoning and tool calls differently.
