Sony confirms new PlayStation games go digital-only in January 2028
Sony restated in a Japanese PlayStation blog post that new PlayStation games will be sold exclusively as digital downloads starting January 2028. Discs released before that date remain playable. The notice appeared alongside the Japan-only PS5 Digital Edition Midnight Black, priced at ¥55,000 and launching November 19, 2026.
