AWS opens secretive networking lab: switches up to 102.4Tbps
AWS gave a rare tour of its closed networking lab, where it builds in-house switches from 3.2Tbps to 102.4Tbps, optical modules, DWDM systems packing 64 wavelengths per fiber, and hollow-core fiber with roughly 33% lower latency. The lab also showed line-rate hardware encryption and a private time distribution network accurate to 20 microseconds.
- AWS switches range from 3.2Tbps (32×100GbE) to 102.4Tbps with 1.6Tbps ports
- DWDM modules put 64 wavelengths on a single fiber strand
- Hollow-core fiber delivers roughly 33% better latency
- Private timing network is accurate to 20 microseconds
