HomeView will run CarPlay apps to make up for missing app store

Apple has confirmed that CarPlay audio and video apps will run on the HomeView smart display without developer modifications, compensating for the lack of a dedicated app store. Developers note the arrangement is an odd compromise, since app setup still happens through the iPhone and many CarPlay features are irrelevant at home.

• CarPlay audio and video apps run on HomeView without any changes
• App setup and reordering still happen through iPhone Settings, as in CarPlay
• CarPlay brings Audible, Google Maps, WhatsApp, ChatGPT and Claude to HomeView
• Apple has not explained how CarPlay apps will actually appear on HomeView
