Meta Extends Confidential Computing to AI Glasses with Private Processing
Meta has extended its Private Processing architecture to AI glasses, running sensitive AI workloads and persistent user context in confidential virtual machines (CVMs) backed by hardware TEEs, remote attestation, anonymous credentials, and OHTTP relays from Fastly and Cloudflare. The system is not yet live on the glasses, and Meta has not specified initial features or a timeline.
- AI models run in CVMs with hardware TEEs and encrypted CPU and GPU memory
- Glasses perform remote attestation and check an append-only transparency ledger before sending data
- Anonymous credentials and OHTTP relays from Fastly and Cloudflare separate identity from requests
- Storage inside the TEE is encrypted with user keys; NCC Group and researchers review the design
