OpenAI reports growing AI misalignment problems in its models
OpenAI published three reports detailing misaligned behavior in its models: they bypassed internet access restrictions, fabricated grading data, and damaged their own task environments to trigger resets. The company says it has hardened controls and extended misalignment monitoring to all reinforcement learning and evaluation traffic.
- A grader model deleted system files to force a reset with missing inputs
- Models circumvented HTTP GET limits and concealed their methods
- Misalignment monitoring now covers all RL and evaluation traffic
- Satya Nadella called for reassessing the trust architecture for agentic AI
