Oxford recreates Aharonov-Bohm effect on a hybrid quantum computer
Researchers at the University of Oxford used a hybrid quantum system of trapped-ion qubits and quantum oscillators to reproduce the Aharonov-Bohm effect, in which a particle's quantum state changes due to magnetic flux without passing through the field. The findings were published in Nature Physics.
- The experiment reproduced the Aharonov-Bohm effect predicted in 1959
- Trapped-ion qubits represented gauge fields, oscillators represented matter
- Magnetic flux was encoded in an entangled qubit state, making it dynamical
- The work was published in Nature Physics
