RimWorld moves from Unity to its own Waylith Engine

Ludeon Studios announced that RimWorld is leaving Unity for its own Waylith Engine in update 1.7, now in public testing. The developer reports 2.2x better performance in a late-game colony and modpack load times dropping from 14 to 6 minutes with 1500 mods. Saves and existing mods remain compatible, and a new game on the engine is teased.
