Chat Control 1.0 Becomes EU Law Despite Majority of MEPs Voting Against

Regulation (EU) 2026/1881 took effect even though 314 MEPs voted to reject it, falling short of the roughly 360 votes needed to block the Council's position. The measure lets qualifying providers voluntarily detect and remove child sexual abuse material and applies until 3 April 2028.
