Apple details iPhone Duo cooling and A20 Pro thermal design
Apple engineers explained how the thin iPhone Duo handles heat: the A20 Pro uses WMCM packaging with DRAM moved beside the processor, a vapor chamber with triple the surface area, and a new nanotube copper layer on the back of the display.
- DRAM moved from a vertical stack to beside the processor via WMCM packaging
- Vapor chamber surface area tripled, with more de-ionized water added
- A nanotube copper display metal plate adds strength and thermal conductivity
- Four thermal pillars: direct silicon access, metal over foam, vapor chamber, display layer
