AWS releases Strands Box, an open-source sandbox for AI agents
AWS open-sourced Strands Box, a sandbox for AI agents that combines OS-level isolation with Dogwood policies that weigh an agent's prior actions before allowing new ones. It is in developer preview on Apple silicon Macs, with Linux support planned.
- Sandbox uses macOS Seatbelt and four checkpoints: shell, Python, MCP and network
- Dogwood policies deny by default and share one event history across tools
- Network gateway swaps API keys for placeholders and signs AWS requests
- Written in Rust, free on GitHub; Linux support promised later
