Engineer sentenced to 32 months for extorting his own employer

A New Jersey federal court sentenced 59-year-old Daniel Rhyne, a former core infrastructure engineer, to 32 months in prison. In November 2023 he used scheduled tasks on the company's domain controller to delete 13 admin accounts, change passwords for 301 users and impact 254 servers and 3,284 workstations, demanding 20 bitcoin (~$750,000).
