Boston Dynamics details redesigned humanoid hand for Atlas
Boston Dynamics has shared details of its redesigned four-fingered hand for the Atlas humanoid: 13 degrees of freedom, directly actuated, with the pinky removed. The hand can still handle over 100 lb and was built for mass manufacturing and sim-to-real reinforcement learning.
- The hand has 13 degrees of freedom and uses 13 identical encapsulated actuators
- The pinky was dropped and the gripper shrunk for reliability and repairability
- It can still lift objects weighing over 100 lb
- The design targets high-fidelity simulation for sim-to-real RL
