China's non-tech giants MiHoYo, Xiaomi and Meituan build their own LLMs

Chinese companies from outside the AI sector — game maker MiHoYo, smartphone vendor Xiaomi and delivery app Meituan — are developing their own large language models to compete with OpenAI and Anthropic. MiHoYo aims to become a top-tier lab in China within a couple of years, Xiaomi released its latest LLM two weeks ago, and Meituan unveiled a more powerful version in June.
