Signal chief: careless AI use is the real threat, not machine uprising
Meredith Whittaker, head of the Signal Foundation, told the BBC that the danger of AI is not "ghost stories" about machines turning on humanity but careless use of the technology. She cited a reported case in which a US intelligence chatbot invented information about a Chinese vessel carrying nuclear material, nearly triggering a military response. Whittaker also said Signal would leave any country, including the UK, that forces it to weaken encryption.
