Scientists in Singapore built the world's most accurate atomic clock
Physicists at Singapore's Centre for Quantum Technologies have built a lutetium-ion atomic clock accurate to the 19th decimal place, a fourfold leap over the best US and Chinese clocks. It would not gain or lose a second over hundreds of billions of years. The research was published in Nature.
- Accuracy to the 19th decimal place, four times better than US and Chinese records
- A single lutetium ion in a Paul trap would not lose a second in hundreds of billions of years
- A 'hyperfine averaging' method cancels magnetic and thermal disturbances
- The results were published in the journal Nature
