Android navigation buttons return to Googlebook keyboards

On every Googlebook keyboard, the F1, F2 and F3 keys now act as Android navigation buttons: triangle for back, circle for home and square for the app switcher. The icons date back to Android 5.0 Lollipop and remain an alternative to gesture navigation in Android 17.

• F1–F3 keys on Googlebooks handle back, home and app switching
• The triangle, circle and square icons come from Android 5.0 Lollipop
• In Android 17 these buttons remain an alternative to gestures
• The back key helps with Android apps not built for desktop use
