VR chair delivers immersive 3D without a headset using micromirror optics
Kyushu University researcher Shogo Fukushima has built a VR chair that produces a stereoscopic 3D view without a headset. A micromirror array sends a different image to each eye, while a gyroscope tracks the chair's rotation in real time. The work was presented at SIGGRAPH Emerging Technologies '26.
- Micromirror array sends a separate image to each eye
- Built-in gyroscope tracks chair rotation in real time without calibration
- Flat mirrors on the sides could expand the view up to six times
- Field of view is limited and no immersion user tests are reported
