Hyundai shelves IONIQ 3 launch in Australia as cheaper Chinese EVs take over
Hyundai has scrapped plans to launch the IONIQ 3 in Australia, saying importing the Turkey-built electric hatch would be too costly to compete with low-priced Chinese EVs. The car is already on sale in the UK from £18,495 with the grant, offering 42 kWh and 61 kWh batteries and up to 308 miles of WLTP range.
- IONIQ 3 is built in Turkey, making Australian import costs too high
- Expected Australian price was around AUD$40,000 vs BYD Dolphin from AUD$28,888
- UK pricing starts at £18,495 including the £3,750 Electric Car Grant
- Battery options of 42 kWh and 61 kWh, up to 308 miles WLTP range
