Apple details how iPhone 18 Pro can cryptographically prove a photo isn't AI-faked

Apple introduced Apple Reference Image mode for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max: the camera signs pixel data immediately after capture, before software processing. The file is stored on-device and processed in Private Cloud Compute with RSA-3072 and ML-DSA-87 signatures.

• Signature applied before processing, unlike metadata methods after the pipeline
• Secure Enclave signs exposure, zoom and lens data separately from pixels
• Final JPEG gets RSA-3072 and post-quantum ML-DSA-87 signatures
• Feature is optional and works only via the iPhone 18 Pro main camera
