FireDome builds autonomous 'artillery' for wildfire defense
Israeli startup FireDome is developing an autonomous ground-based launcher that fires projectiles containing water or fire retardant up to 1,000 ft (305 m), covering about 70 acres around the device. The system is designed to lay down retardant firebreaks and protect structures from embers before firefighters arrive.
- Launch range reaches 1,000 ft (305 m), covering about 70 acres
- 85–90% of WUI structure losses are caused by wind-driven embers, not flame fronts
- The system is fully autonomous and operates before firefighters arrive
- Tel Aviv-based startup founded in 2024 by Gadi Benjamini and Adi Naor Pomerantz
