Smart wallpaper turns indoor humidity into electricity
Researchers at Binghamton University developed paper-based "smart wallpaper" that generates current from indoor humidity. A single 2×2-cm tile produced 0.34 V at 80% humidity, while a 1,596-tile array delivered 3.5 V, enough to power a wireless keyboard. The team targets sensors and IoT devices rather than replacing the grid.
- A single 2×2-cm tile produces 0.34 V at 80% humidity
- A 1,596-tile array delivered 3.5 V and ran a wireless keyboard
- 28 tiles cut chamber humidity from 75% to 50% in about 4 minutes
- Aimed at sensors and IoT, not at replacing the power grid
