Xi'an Jiaotong University Simulates 33-Nozzle Rocket Plumes on 6.774 Trillion Cells
A team at Xi'an Jiaotong University ran the largest known high-fidelity simulation of supersonic jet flow from a 33-nozzle rocket engine array on 6.774 trillion grid cells. The run used Sugon's 8000 platform with tens of thousands of domestic GPUs, reaching 99.01% weak-scaling efficiency and 0.249 exaflops.
- 6.774 trillion grid cells with 99.01% weak-scaling efficiency
- Strong scaling 73%: 4x resources yield 2.92x speedup
- 34.029 trillion cell updates per second (0.249 exaflops)
- WENO-GKS method replaces Runge-Kutta to cut memory traffic
