Ports Choose Battery Reach Stackers Over Hydrogen
The global battery-electric reach-stacker fleet has reached roughly 1,500 machines, about 15–16% of a worldwide fleet of 9,300, with electric models near one-fifth of current production. Repeat orders from ports such as Westport, Portonave and APM Terminals show batteries outpacing hydrogen prototypes.
- Battery-electric reach-stacker fleet is about 1,500 of 9,300 machines, ~20% of production
- A 74-tonne SANY electric uses ~33 kWh per hour and handles ~100 moves per shift
- Reliance Transport reports 80% lower energy and 65% lower maintenance costs
- APM Terminals expects to buy or retrofit about 500 electric reach stackers this decade
