New EU Kids Act will restrict social media for under-15s

The European Commission will present the EU Kids Act on September 17, restricting access to social media, video platforms, online games, and AI chatbots for children under 15. For children under 13, accounts will be fully controlled by guardians; for ages 13–15, moderate parental controls and screen time limits apply.

• Under 13: accounts fully controlled by guardians; 13–15: parental controls and limits
• From 15, teens can create their own accounts
• Rules will follow DSA model with large fines and regulator oversight
