Apple hid Face ID beneath the iPhone 18 Pro display

Apple has embedded the Face ID module beneath the iPhone 18 Pro display for the first time. Engineers widened gaps between pixels over the module, halving pixel density there and boosting brightness to compensate; IR light passes through the gaps while a filter blocks visible light. The change shrinks the Dynamic Island, enabling three Live Activities instead of two.
