FCC delays review of Verizon's copper retirement plans in nine states

The FCC said it needs more time to review Verizon's application to discontinue legacy TDM-based copper voice services in parts of nine states. Verizon had planned to stop offering the services next month, though only about 277,000 of the roughly 12 million available POTS lines remain in use.

• The plan covers Arizona, Delaware, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Utah and Virginia
• Only about 277,000 legacy voice lines, under 2.25%, remain active out of 12 million locations
• Decommissioning covers 382 former Frontier wire stations and 280 Verizon-branded stations
