Newsom Vetoes California Bill Banning Sale of Location and Health Data

Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed AB 1542, which would have prohibited the sale of precise geolocation, health records, biometric identifiers and immigration status. The bill passed the Senate 31-4 and the Assembly 44-19, and was formally endorsed by the CPPA. California's 40 million residents now retain only the opt-out mechanism as protection.
