US Energy Department launches $215M race for error-corrected quantum computer by 2028

The US Department of Energy has launched the Quantum Genesis Q Competition with a $215 million prize pool. Teams must deliver a fault-tolerant quantum computer with at least 100 logical qubits capable of scientifically useful calculations by 2028.

• Two $50 million bonus pools for 150 and 200 logical qubits
• Phase one offers fixed awards of up to $1.5 million for early milestones
• A separate $45 million fund will build national lab testbeds for validation
