Google DeepMind's WeatherNext Cyclones adds a full day of warning

Google DeepMind won the 2026 Gizmodo Science Fair for WeatherNext Cyclones, an AI model that forecasts both the track and intensity of tropical cyclones. A Nature study found it delivers on average an extra day of predictive accuracy — progress comparable to a decade of traditional forecasting. The model is open-sourced on GitHub and doesn't need a supercomputer.
