NASA powers on Roman Telescope's 300-megapixel camera

NASA successfully switched on the Wide Field Instrument, a 300-megapixel infrared camera aboard the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. The detectors were cooled to minus 183 °C and the focusing mechanism and element wheel were tested in weightlessness. First science images are expected by early 2027.
