OpenAI ships GPT-6 Astra as chief scientist calls for slowdown

Three days after OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra, chief scientist Jakub Pachocki published an essay, An Alien Mind, saying no lab has solved alignment and monitoring well enough to keep scaling at maximum speed. Astra costs $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens and scores 61.2 on Artificial Analysis versus 65.7 for Claude Fable 5.1.
